Cary McCook was just trying to get to his Smithers hotel. A deer was just trying to run away from a dog.
Unfortunately, they butted heads.
McCook, who is from the Kwadacha First Nation and part of a hip-hop group called Reka-NatioN, was in Smithers to take an environmental training course when he got out of a coworker鈥檚 truck near the Stork鈥檚 Inn. He had only taken a few steps when a deer galloped right into him.
鈥淚 still can鈥檛 believe I got hit by a deer,鈥 said McCook. 鈥淚 heard three gallops and I turned to my left and before I could make out what it was, I see a deer coming towards me and it hits me and I鈥檓 on the ground.鈥
McCook had to check with his coworkers to make sure it was a deer and even stuck around to talk to hotel management.
鈥淚 was able to get security footage because no one believed me because it was April Fools,鈥 he said.
Not even his own mother took him at his word.
鈥淭he first thing I did was call my mom,鈥 said McCook. 鈥淚 was like mom, I got hit by a deer in front of my hotel room and then she kind of laughed and said 鈥業鈥檝e heard better than that.鈥欌
Since being uploaded to Facebook, the video has been watched over 25,000 times.
McCook loves every moment of it.
鈥淢y family background is really spiritual and connected with the land,鈥 he said. My mom always tells me that laughter is good medicine. In any circumstances, laughter will bring joy to people and that鈥檚 how I like to be 鈥 I like to bring joy to people.鈥
