Fundraising for the Okanagan Rail Trail remains on track.
at its corporate office in Vernon Saturday and $8,785 was raised for development of a recreational corridor from Coldstream to 琉璃神社. Kal Tire then topped this up with an additional $5,000 for a total of $13,785.
鈥淭he garage sale provides a great example of a business supporting their staff and community initiatives,鈥 said Laurie Postill, with the Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative.
Since the funds will be contributed during an October donation matching campaign launched by some local residents, this will result in a total of $27,571 towards rail trail construction.
In addition, $10,400 from Vernon鈥檚 100 Men who Give a Damn was received at the garage sale event, and will also be matched in the October campaign.
鈥淭here are so many people to thank鈥, said Kevin McCarty, Kal Tire鈥檚 corporate social responsibility co-ordinator.
鈥淭hanks go to Kal Tire鈥檚 team, rail trail volunteers, the Community Foundation of North Okanagan, the Vernon Outdoors Club, Save On Foods, Coldstream Creek Orchards and the many people who donated goods or purchased items at the sale.鈥
Donated entertainment and kids activities came from Natalie Ingram, Marv Machura, Bounce Hire Inflatables and the Woida family.
The October matching campaign has raised more than $300,000, with the matching target set at $500,000.
