An Oliver man is back in custody just 12 weeks after he was released from jail following a police search warrant of a residence where a large amount of stolen property was discovered.
David James O鈥橞rien, 48, was charged with possession of stolen property, and possession of ammunition while prohibited. He also faces a charge of breaching the terms of his Jan. 31 conditional sentence order.
A woman also residing at the property on Road 15 in Oliver, Yanni Gagnon, 36, was also charged with possession of stolen property.
The April 15 search of the property, by Oliver RCMP, RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and the RCMP Police Dog Services recovered two stolen motorcycles, stolen construction material, farming equipment, a firearm and ammunition.
"This property is well known to police," said Sgt. Laurie Rock, area commander of the Oliver RCMP in a press release. "The South Okanagan RCMP Detachments continue to tackle property crime in the area and will use all measures available to us to bring those responsible before the courts."
O'Brien is not unfamiliar with the courts, having most recently pleaded guilty and received sentencing for a number of charges he picked up from 2023 to 2024, including a break-and-enter charge in New Westminster, driving while disqualified, breaching a release order and fleeing police on the two occasions in Oliver, and resisting or obstructing a police officer in 琉璃神社.
