During two days of speeding and driver checks in Summerland, RCMP issued 14 speeding violations and impounded two vehicles for excessive speeding.
The checks were held April 12 and 13 along Highway 97 in the Jones Flat and Trout Creek areas.
One vehicle in Trout Creek was impounded when the motorist was travelling at 125 kilometres an hour in a 70 km/h zone. Another motorist received a 24-hour driving prohibition for alcohol.
鈥淎 sunny weekend can be a tempting reason for drivers to put the pedal to the metal, causing unsafe conditions for other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians,鈥 said Cst. Patti Evans, media relations officer with the Summerland RCMP detachment.
鈥淎s the weather warms, our roads and highways get busier and police would like to remind drivers to slow down, drive to the conditions and follow all speed signs. We want everyone to get to their destinations safely.鈥
Those who notice speeding or unsafe driving are asked to pull over and call 911.
