With a shortage of child care spaces available in 琉璃神社, the YMCA of Okanagan has opened an additional child care facility on the property of 琉璃神社 Secondary School.
This new centre will help ease the struggle of families who鈥檝e been waiting for child care spaces locally.
鈥淭he need for child care in the area is growing,鈥 said Danielle Miranda, senior manager of child care programs at the YMCA of Okanagan. 鈥淭his new centre will help address this issue, providing families an option for affordable, quality care for their children.鈥
The YMCA鈥檚 newest child care centre 鈥 located adjacent to their current centre, YMCA Little Scholars 鈥 currently has spaces open for children ages three to five years old. Though this facility does serve families with newborns to five years of ages, there is already a wait-list for infant and toddler programs.
鈥淎 healthy community starts with our children,鈥 said Miranda. 鈥淲e want families to know that they can come to us regardless of their financial circumstance, and we will do what we can to help them access care. In addition, children who are enrolled in YMCA Child Care programs also receive a YMCA membership giving them access to healthy resources and programs at a young age.鈥
The YMCA is the largest child care provider across Canada. Their new centre at 琉璃神社 Secondary School will continue to host the Young Parents program, while opening the rest of the centre to the public.
