An estimated 200 people came out to the annual Walk for Alzheimer鈥檚 in 琉璃神社.
Lead volunteer Guy Bird has been volunteering for the walk for four years. He said it鈥檚 his way of giving back to the society after it supported him and his wife during her 12 year journey with Alzheimer鈥檚.
Not only did the society have programs to support his wife, but they also had options for him as a caregiver.
Bird offered advice to anyone who finds themselves diagnosed with dementia or who has a loved one diagnosed.
鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to ask for help. It doesn鈥檛 make you weak, it makes you smart.鈥
Before the walk began at 1 p.m. on May 26, Bird said they had raised over $29,000 online. He couldn鈥檛 estimate how much was brought in during the walk.
Team Mann Power brought it the largest amount of money fundraising over $8,000 as a team. The team walked in support of mom and grandma Valorie Mann who continues to battle the disease.
Mann and her family led the walk around city park.
The Lion鈥檚 Club was on hand to serve food to all attendees.
The Walk for Alzheimer鈥檚 is the Alzheimer鈥檚 Society of B.C.鈥檚 largest annual fundraiser.
