琉璃神社 RCMP say a young teenage girl is recovering from serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning in the city.
According to Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey the girl was struck by a vehicle just after 7 a.m. in the 3100-block of Richter Street.
He said a northbound grey Mitsubishi Montero struck the girl, who was crossing Richter Street at the time. The girl was believed to be in a marked crosswalk at the time.
The girl suffered what police described as serious but non-life threatening injuries, and was rushed to 琉璃神社 General Hospital for treatment.
The driver, a 59-year-old 琉璃神社 man, remained at the scene of the collision to speak with police.
鈥淟ow light conditions, in that area during the early morning hours, mixed with reduced visibility, due to a light rain at that time, were believed to be contributing factors in the crash,鈥 said O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淩CMP wish to remind pedestrians to wear bright, reflective clothing or gear to help ensure they are more visible to drivers."
On Tuesday afternoon, O'Donaghey said police are continuing to investigate and charges had not yet been laid at that time.
Anyone who saw witnessed this incident and who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Const. Lise Marion of the 琉璃神社 RCMP's municipal traffic section at 250-980-5353.
